Basement Waterproofing

Challenge

Homeowners in Middleburg, VA had water coming into their basement when it rained. They had a sump pump but it only worked some of the time. Wet basements can cause all sorts of problems. Excessive moisture can lead to mold, mildew, or other biological growth that may cause several health issues. It can also lead to rot and structural damage in your home.

Solution

Our pros came out to make this basement healthier, more comfortable, and dry ALL THE TIME! We installed a new TripleSafe pump system and an UltraSump battery back-up pumping system. IceGuard was installed to prevent floods from clogged or frozen discharge lines and then FloodRing to contain any future tank leakage. Next, we installed WaterGuard XL, a sub-floor drainage system so that any water coming in through the walls could travel easily to the sump pumps. Then TrenchLock was installed, designed to block unwanted ground air and gasses from getting into the basement and ultimately the house. We extended the exterior discharge line and added a LawnScape outlet at the end of the buried line to blend in with the lawn and deter leaves, animals, and debris from getting into it. Finally, we installed the CleanSpace Wall System to create a moisture and vapor barrier and forces any water seepage to flow into the WaterGuard drainage system and then to the sump pump.

These wonderful homeowners now have a basement that is dry all of the time and no longer have to worry about the mountain of problems that can occur with the presence of moisture.

The old sump pump. The homeowner had tried everything to keep his basement dry, including trying to seal around the sump pump so that water would not overflow out of it.

This wall shows efflorescence. Efflorescence is a crystalline deposit of salts that can form when water is present in or on brick, concrete, stone, stucco or other building surfaces.

Here you can see the new TripleSafe pump system and the battery back-up system. Now this homeowner no longer has to worry about water escaping from his sump pump and into his basement.

IceGuard is installed. This system pumps water out of the basement without fear of the outlet freezing during the chilly winter months. Without this in place, the outlet lines can freeze over entirely, blocking water flow away from the sump and the basement.

This is the LawnScape outlet. It's grated opening is designed to deter leaves, animals, and debris when possible. This lawn outlet system also features a removable lid that allows for cleaning. The rugged design of the LawnScape can withstand normal wear and tear as the lawn is used -- including the weight of a lawn tractor passing over it. The discharge lines you see will be buried.

After the WaterGuard is installed, the concrete is restored.

Here you can see the CleanSpace Wall System, which utilizes a thick (20mil) white poly sheet material to completely cover basement foundation walls. As part of the waterproofing system, it creates an effective moisture and vapor barrier. The wall covering forces all wall seepage and moisture to flow into the perimeter drain system (WaterGuard).
