Often times, when we think of damp crawl space or basement, our first worry is mold growth or flooding. However, rust is an equally problematic issue caused by excessive moisture that can cause the metal supports of a crawl space or basement to weaken and even crumble. This home in Fort Belvoir, VA was experiencing severe rust development as well as water damage in their crawl space. The ceiling of the crawl space was beginning to sag, meaning the upper floor was loosing structural support. While a wet crawl space can lead to mold growth and allergy issues, the excessive rust can compromise the stability of the whole home foundation.
