Photo Album: Reducing Mold and Mildew Odors

A homeowner in Sterling, VA gave us a call because she could smell musty odors in her crawl space and she also wanted the insulation replaced. The 3 Pros team first removed and disposed of the old moldy insulation from the crawl space ceiling and properly disposed of it. Next we installed CleanSpace and Drainage Matting on the concrete crawl space floor. We installed closed cell spray foam on the rim joists to air seal and insulate. Finally, we installed Foamax Board to make the basement warmer.

Damaged and Moldy Insulation

This old insulation was moldy and had a terrible mildew smell. It had to be removed.

What's That Smell?

Underneath the stairs is where the mildew smell was the worst. The production crew removed all of this contaminated insulation and properly disposed of it.

Spray Foam and Dimple Matting.

Here we can see that the rim joists have been spray foamed. This stops air and moisture leaks. On the floor, dimple matting has been installed.

Drainage Matting

This matting has a unique raised dimple shape that allows water to flow through it.

CleanSpace Liner Installed

CleanSpace is a super durable 20 mil thick vapor barrier.

Foamax Installed on the Walls

Foamax is an advanced foam insulation panel designed with a white foil finish on the front and a foil vapor barrier on the back. Foamax makes a big difference in the temperature of the walls.
