Crawl Space Encapsulation
Challenge
This Triangle, VA homeowner had a bump-out added to the back of his home years ago. The bump-out was built over a crawl space and the kitchen is above this crawl space. The kitchen floors have always been cold and the cabinets expelled cold air in the winter when opened.
Solution
Our team was called in to solve the problem. The existing Batt insulation installed on the floor was not airtight and there were gaps in between each batt. Thus, cold air touched the floor above and made it cold and uncomfortable in the kitchen above. We "encapsulated" the crawl space and turned it into a conditioned space. Now the floors in the kitchen can be comfortably walked on with bare feet in the winter!
