This homeowner in Fairfax Virginia was dealing with uncomfortable rooms over top of their crawl space. The floors were cold in the winter and hot in the summer and the crawl space smelled musty. Our production team went to improve the crawl space and the air quality in the home by removing the old insulation, capping off the open air vents, removing the plastic covering some sections of the crawl space floor, laying down a vapor barrier and a moisture barrier along with floor insulation and panel insulation around he walls of the crawl space. They used Zyp Foam to seal the insulation panels and finally covered the floors and walls with Clean Space. A SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier was installed with a discharge line draining to the sump pump which was fitted with a water alarm to alert the homeowner if the crawl space had a flooding issue in the future. Insulating this crawl space from the outside, in, will help to improve the control of the space while improving the air quality and temperatures in the rooms above.

Filled with gravel, the floor of this crawl space was wet below and smelled musty.

This open air vent would allow external temperatures to impact the crawl space. Dust and outside allergens were able to mix into the air of the crawl space.

Dirty plastic covering the floors shows proof that dirt and dust was being allowed to move through the crawl space both on the ground and in the air. The falling insulation had failed to properly insulate the floors above due to a lack of external air control.
