Crawl Space Improvement Spotsylvania Virginia

This home in Spotsylvania Virginia had a nasty crawl space that the homeowner wanted to get upgraded.  Our production team was able to remove all of the old plastic floor covering, remove the old insulation falling from the crawl space ceiling, improve the venting system in the crawl space and insulate from the walls out to create a cleaner, drier and better crawl space that could now be used for storage if needed.  This will help to improve the air quality and comfort in the rooms of the home above.

Clifton VA Crawl Space Transition

This Clifton VA crawl space originally had gravel floors with black plastic materials covering it in an effort to "manage" the moisture and wetness in the space.  Traditional methods like that do not really work and can often create more problems than it eliminates.  Plastic material,  covering cold, wet floors can actually trap moisture below and add to the musty, mildew heavy smells in the space and promote poor air quality in the home above.  Our production team began this transformation by covering the gravel with the brown drainage liner shown in the "before" photo.  This keeps moisture and air below the eventually sealed floor covering and allows air to move and help the moisture evaporate.  Clean Space was later used across the entire surface and up the crawl space walls.

Installation of our SmartDrain in a Crawl Space

The SmartDrain System is a crawl space drain that includes a bottomless liner and an airtight lid. If a plumbing failure occurs, this system will drain the water beneath your vapor barrier, preventing it from collecting in the space.

The SmartDrain is installed within a drywell created during the installation. A fill of clean drainage stone is used around to isolate the drain from the dirt to prevent clogging.

Our system features a unique ball-and-cup drain system. When water enters the cup, the ball floats and opens the drain -- sealing again when no water remains. When the system detects water, a unique WaterWatch Alarm will sound off, alerting you of an issue.

Here, you can see a drywell being created in a Bumpass, VA crawl space. The SmartDrain is then placed in the hole and backfilled with drainage stone.

Fairfax VA Sump Pump Discharge Drain Pipe

This Fairfax VA home had water in the crawl space so the homeowners called us to help install waterproofing solutions.  After sealing up the crawl space and installing a sump pump, a discharge line was needed to direct the collected water away from the foundation of the home.  After digging up the yard to create a trench, our production team tried to get the yard back to its original condition.

Fairfax VA Crawl Space Spray Foam Insulation Project

This Fairfax VA homeowner was experiencing comfort issues in their home.  The floors were often hot in the summer and cold in the winter.  They had noticed a need to repeatedly adjust their thermostat to try and make if feel cooler or warmer.  The called us to help and our Home Performance Sales Pro Pedro went out to visit and see if he could find a solution.  During his no cost,  whole home inspection, Pedro was able to identify that the crawl space was uncontrolled and vented.  This meant that outside air and temperatures were able to impact the crawl space and the temperature of the rooms above.  Vents in the crawl space also allowed for dust and allergens from outside to make their way into the home and resulted in poor air quality in the home.  Pedro advised that the homeowners should have the space encapsulated and insulated from the outside.  This meant sealing up the vents and insulating the walls of the crawl space.  The crawl space is now closed off, controlled and able to be used for storage if needed.  The air quality in the home is improved and the energy cost to heat and cool the home will now be lower.
